"獨孤里橋之役"在推出之際,即受到廣大的喝采以戰爭影片而言,這部影片的偉大成就在於高品質的製作,以及精彩的拍攝畫面本片以心理分析的角度去描述二次 世界大戰期間一個軍人,荷頓被召回戰場執行任務荷頓雖然痛恨戰事擾亂他的家居生活,離開了他和妻子之間的親蜜;然而他服從命令而擔任空軍轟炸員。鏡頭轉到了韓國境內的五座撟樑接著又跳到另個鏡頭,出現是一位面容嚴肅的將軍,他面對士兵們演講關於轟炸橋樑的重要性然後他指定由荷頓與幾位同志一道出航去轟炸橋樑,當然在此次任務中,五位飛官皆前後為國捐軀。整部影片的拍攝過程逼真而感人,不少場面動用了美國海軍的支援。技術上拍攝工作分成兩部份:一組人員負責空中場景,另組人員負責。爆炸效果.導演的功夫充份展現在中國海峽與東京的畫面之中。
